Additionally we team with the Blair County and Fort Bedford Chapters of Trout Unlimited to form the Yellow Creek Watershed Coalition. Water quality protection and improvement is TU's focus. Clean water is essential for agriculture, industry and recreation to prosper. The major problem facing our local chapter is abandoned mine drainage (AMD) from abandoned coal mines. Other non-point source pollution such as uncontrolled storm water runoff and sedimentation is also a problem in MLTU's service area. Literally dozens of streams and rivers in Cambria & Somerset Counties have been rendered unfishable, unswimable, undrinkable and fit for nothing more than a storm sewer system for most of the 20th century. We are working very hard to remediate these problems. Visit our Projects page to learn more of our involvement. We invite you to be a part of our growing support base. Trout Unlimited is a volunteer cold water preservation and enhancement group with a national headquarters in Arlington Virginia. State councils, and local chapters are located throughout the country.. |
