Wild Trout

Although most fish in the Stonycreek-Conemaugh watershed are stocked, there is a surprising amount of naturally reproducing fish.  Many small tributaries flowing off the east slope of Laurel Ridge offer angling for wild brook and rainbow trout.  A small tributary to Quemahoning Dam harbors an excellent population of wild brown trout.  Larger waters such as Clear Shade, Bens Creek and Beaverdam Run offer viable populations of wild trout in addition to stocked fish.  The wild fish are a testament to the water quality in area streams not impacted by mine discharges.
